Toddler painting project

My daughter has a thing for pouring her water all over her food tray and then splashing it, food bits included!  So we took this art project OUTSIDE!

Materials:
tempra paint
water
cooking oil (we used olive oil)
watercolour paper
tray (we used her highchair tray)

I had her choose her colours, squeezed a dab of them on her tray, added water and let her play with the mix.
After about a minute or two, and while the colours were mostly still separated, I added a few drops of oil in different areas and immediately pressed a page of watercolour paper down over the mixture until I saw that the paper had absorbed through.

I found the best effect was when the paint was still intact in some areas and had not been mixed thoroughly with the water:)
